Conservatories

A conservatory is probably the most versatile room space you will ever own… versatile in the many ways you can design it but also in the uses you can put it to. Dining room, playroom, study, a gym or a games room or just a place to relax… a special space where you can bring the garden into your home and watch the changing seasons. The choice is yours. Many recent studies have also shown that, as an investment, there is little to beat a stylish conservatory for adding value to your property. The idea of the conservatory goes way back to Empire days and is now enjoying a much-deserved revival, largely through the many practical benefits of PVC-U.

There are as many shapes of conservatory as there are houses to match them to. Whether grand or modest, classical or modern, the possibilities are countless but as a simple guide here are the main categories:

Victorian

All the classical elegance of the original conservatory, the Victorian is rectangular in shape, finished off with a ‘chamfered’ end and a ridged roof. The Victorian is the quintessential classic. The style is marked by its distinctive multi faceted rounded end effect but, as with its neighbour the Edwardian, the style offers a wide range of variants so that no two need ever be alike.

Edwardian

The same ‘old-style’ effect of a ridged roof but on a simple rectangular base. This retains the classical look of the Victorian but is popular with homeowners looking for maximum use of available space.

Gable

The gable-ended roof is more geometric finish with cleaner lines that help it to blend in with a more modern home. Its windows extend up to the apex of the conservatory roof, creating stunning front elevations.
